Thank you for your continued patience as we address the unique challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic is placing on your studies. We admire your resilience at this difficult time.
We are committed to your success. While campus buildings are closed, UWinnipeg faculty and staff are ready to connect with you remotely — by email and phone— to offer academic advice, library resources, counselling services, or help applying for awards and financial aid. See our Student FAQ and Campus Services FAQ pages for more information on student supports available.
Voluntary withdrawal deadline extended. The voluntary withdrawal deadline for both winter 2020 term (January to April 2020) and fall/winter 2019-20 term (September 2019 to April 2020) has been extended to April 6. Please speak with your instructor and/or an academic advisor before withdrawing, as there may be other options to help you complete the course.
Spring registration is around the corner. Courses available during spring term will be offered online or using alternative delivery methods. You can see available courses in WebAdvisor and our Timetable — each week, we are adding more. On April 7, we will email your online registration time. Tiered registration for spring term will take place from April 13 to 27, and open registration will begin on April 28. If you are paying tuition via credit card, the $75 convenience fee will be waived. The additional fee, normally charged for online courses, will not be charged for spring term, and there will be no fitness centre fees for the spring or summer terms.
Financial Aid is available. We were glad to see that the Government of Canada has announced a plan to pause the repayment of Canada Student Loans until September 30, 2020, with no accrual of interest. For more information, visit their website. If you have any questions, our Awards and Financial Aid officers are available by email or phone.
Reach out for help if you need it. It is understandable that the current situation may result in additional pressures and stress. We want to remind you that our Counselling Services team is working remotely, and available to assist. Supports are also available through the Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba.
International students are facing unique challenges right now. If you need advice on study permits, or supports available, contact International, Immigrant and Refugee Student Services at 204.786.9469 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The Canadian government also has advice and information on their website, updated regularly.
We are here to support you — don’t hesitate to let us know what you need.
