Update on Fall Term planning

Wesley Hall

Wesley Hall

Our fall planning is well underway, and we are looking forward to the 2021-22 academic year.

The vaccine rollout is gaining momentum, helping to flatten the pandemic’s third wave and ultimately paving our way to a safe campus return. Based on government estimates, all Manitobans ages 12+ will have the opportunity to be vaccinated in the coming weeks.

While we are optimistic about in-person classes and greater personal interaction, our decisions will be aligned with public health guidance.

We also recognize that people’s comfort levels and preferences vary. Our surveys show that approximately two-thirds of UWinnipeg students and faculty members are eager to return in person this fall — with one-third who are not comfortable with the idea yet. That’s why we are developing our 2021-22 course calendar to provide a mix of both in-person activities and options for remote learning.

We are gearing up to start course registration in late June or early July. Though our plans for Fall Term cannot be finalized without further clarity on the public health situation, we expect to know more shortly and will share additional details as soon as we can.

In the meantime, we continue to consult our academic departments and operational recovery teams — looking at options and planning for different scenarios — as we ready ourselves for a successful back-to-school experience and better times for all.

Stay tuned and stay safe.
