The first annual Bike Week Winnipeg takes place June 14 – 22, and the University of Winnipeg Student Association (UWSA) Bike Lab community is gearing up to take part. Bike Week Winnipeg is the natural expansion of the 7th annual Bike to Work Day, organized by many of the same passionate cyclists who want to share their love of cycling with more than just commuters, through bike-friendly activities held across Winnipeg.
“The UWSA Bike Lab is excited to participate in Bike Week’s celebration and promotion of cycling for everyone, and is eager to represent the cycling interests and needs of UWinnipeg’s campus and community population,” says Jacob Nikkel, Advocacy Coordinator for the UWSA Bike Lab.
For Bike Week Winnipeg, the UWSA Bike Lab is offering Bike Week tune-ups on campus on Monday, May 16, from 12:00 noon – 6:00 pm. Bike Lab staff/volunteers will also be on hand for the MEC Bikefest at the Forks on Saturday, June 22, from 12:00 noon – 5:00 pm, where they will be offering a workshop on gears and brakes.
Other Bike Week Winnipeg events include cycle-tours, traveling dinners, and workshops. The full schedule is available online.
The UWSA Bike Lab is a revolutionary cycling education and advocacy facility that provides the space, tools and support to allow students, faculty, staff, and community members to keep their bicycles running smoothly all year long.
