WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg invites everyone from the community to attend the 6th Annual I Heart UWinnipeg Dinner in support of the Opportunity Fund. Since its inception in 2007, the Opportunity Fund has provided $2 million in assistance to more than 1,765 students.
The I Heart dinner takes place at Canad Inns Polo Park on Thursday, May 21st with cocktails at 6:00 p.m. and meal to follow.
This year’s event features student recipients of the Opportunity Fund as performers, speakers and guests. The goal of the Opportunity Fund goal is to build a $10 million bursary fund that will help ensure access to higher learning, bridge the graduation gap, and transform lives through education. The Opportunity Fund covers the cost of books and/or tuition for students who identify as a currently under-represented population including refugees or recent immigrants, Indigenous and inner-city students. It was expanded in 2012 to waive the cost of tuition for youth raised in the child welfare system. The University of Winnipeg was the first Canadian institution to offer this support and continues to be a leader in educational accessibility in our country.
