The University of Winnipeg is partnering with the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) to host the Indigenous Communication in the Digital World: Economic Realities and Challenges, a roundtable discussion on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 8:30am – 4:30pm in Convocation Hall, UWinnipeg, 515 Portage Avenue. This is the fifth and final roundtable relating findings from the latest Promise and Prosperity Report. Prior CCAB roundtables have been hosted in Edmonton, Halifax, Toronto and Victoria.
Indigenous Communication in the Digital World: Economic Realities and Challenges includes diverse speakers from media and academia who will discuss the role Aboriginal media plays in Canadian culture and economy, as well as the importance of communication in a time of reconciliation.
According to JP Gladu, CCAB President and CEO, “The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business Research Department is honoured to partner with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and The University of Winnipeg on this important Aboriginal Communications Roundtable. I want to emphasize how important it is to recognize that journalists, media and academics play a vital role in expressing Aboriginal business perspectives that not only look inward, but outward at a rapidly changing world. The power of research and partnership is helping to build a new awareness of Aboriginal business in Canada today.”
“Digital media is all-important considering the innovative opportunities available to bridge urban, rural, northern and remote places, peoples, and industries”, says Dr. Ryan Bullock, Assistant Professor in Environmental Studies and Sciences and Director of the Centre for Forest Interdisciplinary Research. “This is an important conversation and UWinnipeg is excited to be working with CCAB to help facilitate this timely dialogue.”
