Award-winning author and UWinnipeg Professor Emerita, Dr. Deborah Schnitzer, is launching her highly anticipated book jane dying again on Tuesday May 17, 7:00 pm at McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park in the Atrium. This event is free and open to all.
Jane Duc is a woman wanting release. Her husband, Clever, suffers a relentless illness that has worn them both out. They retreat to the family cottage, and Jane gains solace in the forest and river. But not enough. Circumstances can’t be rectified; grief can’t be contained. Friends stand by in bewildered vigilance as she withdraws into a world they don’t know and can’t reach. In her final action, Jane reveals the edges of human endurance.
Schnitzer is a beloved professor who has also earned writing accolades which include the 2010 Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction for her second novel An Unexpected Break in the Weather. Is It My Turn, created with colleague Shelagh Carter (theatre and film), received the 2014 Gold Remi Award for Best Experimental Film. Schnitzer’s collections include At The Edge, a collaborative novel with 16 writers, edited with Marjorie Anderson, a 2013 Manitoban Best Seller, and the award-winning anthology, The Madwoman in the Academy: 43 Women Boldly Take on the Ivory Tower, developed with Deborah Keahey. Before Anything You Say, a feature film with Carter, and a third novel, the woman who swallowed West Hawk Lake, will appear this fall.
