New Masters In Management Degree to be offered at UWinnipeg

The University of Winnipeg has launched a unique, industry-driven graduate program. The new Masters in Management with a specialization in Technology, Innovation and Operations (MiM) is a graduate-level degree that focuses on developing innovative, critical thinkers at a senior management level. It is aimed at those with an undergraduate business degree who are seeking additional management credentials, including those already working in the managerial field.

Developed through a collaborative effort between local industry and UWinnipeg’s Department of Business & Administration, the program initially will be delivered on a part-time basis via a blended (online and in-class) model to align with the needs of working professionals. Students will begin and finish the 30-credit degree program with two-week-long “boot camps”; the remaining courses are offered online throughout the year.

“We are excited to create this innovative applied program outside of the traditional MBA model,” said Rosalie Harms, Chair of the Department of Business & Administration in UWinnipeg’s Faculty of Business and Economics. “It’s especially designed to meet the ever-changing needs of our private sector and industry partners. We know that the areas of technology, innovation, and operations management are central to the success of nearly all organizations.”

“We applaud the University’s efforts to include companies such as Boeing in the launch of the MiM program, ensuring that courses offered are in line with industry needs,” said Herman Hansen, Senior Manager of Human Resources at Boeing Canada.

Few similar programs exist in Canada, and there is presently no other graduate degree in the country that focuses on the blend of technology, innovation and operations management. The MiM is also the first hybrid program at the master’s level in Manitoba.

“The MiM is a demonstration of the excellence in program design that ensues from industry-university collaboration, “said Dr. Sylvie Albert, Dean, Faculty of Business & Economics. “We are very pleased to be a part of this type of innovative partnership.”

Applications for the first intake of the new Masters in Management degree will be accepted starting this summer (application deadline is February 1, 2017). The program gets underway in August 2017.
