The India Association of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg are proud to announce that the recipient of the 2016 lifetime achievement award is Mr. Bob Dhillon, Founder, President and CEO of Mainstreet Equity Corp. The award will be presented tonight at the India Centre Award of Excellence and Achievement dinner in Winnipeg, Manitoba, hosted by the India Centre for Academic, Business and Community Excellence, with approximately 350 guests attending.
“Bob Dhillon is a great Canadian entrepreneur. He straddles many worlds with ease, having been born in Japan to Sikh parents and educated in both India and Canada,” said Dr. Sylvie Albert, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Winnipeg and co-chair of the India Centre. “He is passionate about sharing his expertise, and is a mentor and role model to many young people.”

The India Centre annually recognizes an individual for excellence and lifetime contributions in one or more of the three sectors covered by the India Centre: academic, business, and community. The award honours achievement and contributions in the service of Canadian society, promoting understanding and leadership in specific sectors, including the Indo-Canadian community.
Mr. Bob Dhillon is widely recognized as one of Canada’s top entrepreneurs and businessmen and is known to be one of the most influential Indians in North America. His company, Mainstreet Equity Corp, is one of the highest performing publicly traded real estate companies in the country, with assets valued at over $1.5 billion and nearly 10,000 apartment units in Western Canada. Mr. Dhillon currently sits on the board for the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), is one of Canada’s Honorary Consul General for Belize, where he owns a private 3,000-acre island that he is developing into a world-class tourist resort. He is the owner of National Payments, a Visa and MasterCard approved merchant processing business in the financial services industry.
Mr. Dhillon is also known for his philanthropy. He has donated over $500,000 to the town of San Pedro, Belize, provided free apartment suites to victims of the Fort McMurray and Slave Lake, Alberta fires, and championed efforts to accommodate 100 families of Syrian refugees.
