Two UWinnipeg professors from the Department of Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications recently returned from the National Communication Association (NCA) conference in Philadelphia, PA, bringing home an award each. NCA is the largest scholarly association in North America devoted to the study of communication, receiving nearly 5,000 submissions each year.
Dr. Jason Hannan received the Top Journal Article Award by the Philosophy of Communication Division for his article, Moral Discourse Without Foundations: Habermas and MacIntyre on Rational Choice, published in Communication Theory.
“For Jason’s essay to be was acknowledged as the top paper in his competitive division for the second year in a row is a remarkable, maybe unparalleled, accomplishment,” said Dr. Jaqueline McLeod Rogers, (Chair, Rhetoric, Writing, and Communications), and fellow award winner. “It speaks to the cutting edge and the depth of his scholarly work.”
Rogers, received an award for top paper by the Urban Communication Foundation for her paper entitled City Planning as Civic Calling and More: McLuhan’s Search for Pattern and Meaning in Urban Networks.
