WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is pleased to honour four of its outstanding faculty members at the upcoming Spring Convocation ceremonies on June 15 and 16, 2017. The awards include the distinguished titles of Professor Emeritus, Fellowship in United College, and other notable faculty and staff awards. Murray J. Evans, BA (Hons), MA, PhD
Professor Emeritus
Evans is known for his impeccable scholarship, discipline, and humour. Throughout his 40-year career, he has chosen to interpret the most difficult of classic texts, and has carefully synthesized them to ease the way for all readers after him. He has served his discipline of literary studies with the highest distinction, by breaking new ground and gaining international recognition in his fields of study. A consummate scholar, Evans has garnered the respect of his students, colleagues, and peers. He has mentored generations of students with his talent and ability to teach difficult theoretical topics in an open and engaged manner.
Carol Harvey, MA, L ès L, PhD
Fellowship in United College
Harvey’s excellence in teaching, research, and community service has made an indelible mark on The University of Winnipeg. Universally loved by students and respected by colleagues, she has advanced French scholarship in Manitoba and abroad throughout her remarkable career. She is known for her meticulous preparation and curricular innovation, as well as her warmth and receptivity. Harvey’s extensive research on French literature and Francophone history has helped connect UWinnipeg to the French community in Manitoba and beyond.
Laura Reimer, BA, MPA, PhD
Clifford J. Robson Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence
Reimer is both a respected scholar and teacher who inspires a deep love of learning. Reimer is an outstanding educator who transforms lives. Her teaching style nurtures a trust-building, collaborative approach to learning that encourages participation, lively discourse, and engagement. As a public administration professor with extensive training in peace and conflict studies, she exposes students to a greater understanding of leadership and their roles in our communities and the world. Her students describe her classes and seminars as contagious and life-changing.
Michael Weinrath, MA, PhD
Robin H. Farquhar Award for Excellence in Contributing to Self-Governance
Weinrath has made significant and lasting contributions to UWinnipeg over the course of 20 years — most notably building the Criminal Justice program and serving at its helm as Chair for 13 years. He helped create a department that is collegial and well-respected across the criminology and criminal justice community in Canada, and he was instrumental in promoting the program nationally at the Western Regional Criminology Articulation Committee.
