Kevin Lamoureux, UWinnipeg’s Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Affairs, is taking a one-year leave for an interchange with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. Lamoureux will assume the role of National Education Lead effective September 5, 2017.
“We have been privileged to have such a talented, articulate leader at the forefront of our reconciliation efforts at The University of Winnipeg,” said Dr. Annette Trimbee, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Kevin is both a UWinnipeg graduate and highly respected colleague; we wish him continuing success over the course of the coming year in his role at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. We look forward to working with Kevin and the NCTR towards our mutual goal of advancing reconciliation.”
Reconciliation is an institution-wide commitment. UWinnipeg is an original founding partner of NCTR and a member of the network of institutions committed to the work of Truth and Reconciliation.
In Lamoureux’s absence, UWinnipeg’s efforts will be maintained by Dr. Jaime Cidro and Jarita Greyeyes, among other members of our team. Cidro, a professor in UWinnipeg’s Department of Anthropology, will take the lead on the institution’s Indigenous Course Requirement (ICR) and the Weweni Indigenous Scholars Speaker Series. Greyeyes is UWinnipeg’s Director of Community Learning and Engagement and will continue fostering relationships with Indigenous communities.
