On Wednesday, November 22 and Thursday, November 23, two UWinnipeg researchers are presenting at the 5th annual Indigenous Health Symposium, Looking Forward, Pushing Back: Research, Resistance, Resurgence, hosted by the University of Manitoba.

White Supremacy and Indigenous Health in Manitoba: Historians Critically Reflect on Physician Commemoration.
UWinnipeg’s Dr. McCallum was recently awarded the inaugural Indigenous Research Scholar Award. Dr. McCallum, Professor (History) is pursuing several projects, including completion of a volume on Indigenous Women’s History (with Dr. Susan Hill), and creation of a collaborative website with other Indigenous historians from Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Dr. Jaime Cidro
Indigenous Doulas for Women in the City and for Women Who Travel for Birth.
Dr. Cidro, (Associate Professor, Anthropology) recently received two Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grants totaling over $835,000 combined. Her field of study is a collaborative partnership between Wiijii’idiwag Ikwewag (Manitoba Indigenous Doula Initiative), Nanaandawewigamig (First Nations Health and Social Secretariat of Manitoba), and University of Manitoba researchers Drs. Maureen Heaman and Josee Lavoie.
