Students continue to be the driving force behind the annual Cultural Night hosted by UWinnipeg’s Professional, Applied, and Continuing Education (PACE) program. Now in its seventh year, the event has grown from a Bollywood movie night on campus, to a sold-out cultural showcase at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
PACE’s annual Cultural Night is not only a celebration of the diversity at UWinnipeg, it’s also a chance for students to gain hands-on experience. This year, close to 100 PACE students have been involved with various aspects the Friday, January 19 event, from creating original on-stage performances to organizing details behind the scene.
“I am very proud to present the seventh annual cultural event as an event with a very high student involvement,” said Mekala Wickramasinghe, PACE Student Life and Engagement Coordinator and event lead. “It’s amazing to see both Canadian and international students really take in pride in celebrating Canada’s diversity. We are so thankful to the increasing support from the students, alumni, faculty and staff and sponsors for this event.”
Student performances include songs, dances, and a global fashion show. Attendees can also grab a selfie with Weslee Coyote, take photos at the Parks Canada Photo Booth, chat with event sponsors, and enter to win one of 18 door prizes.
“Cultural Night is the signature event of the year for PACE, I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” said Kim Loeb, PACE Executive Director. “It brings our community together in one magical night of showcasing the best of PACE student talent while celebrating their cultural diversity.”
