A player with a wealth of experience is joining the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s Soccer Program. Head coach Pedro Daza is pleased to announce that Enrique Garcea has committed to joining the Wesmen for the 2013 Canada West season.Garcea an 18 year old midfielder/defender from Glenlawn Collegiate is currently playing as a member of the Canadian National U18 team at the L’Alcudia International Tournament in Valencia, Spain. The tournament will serve as a two year build up to the next FIFA U20 World Cup qualification.
“The recruitment of Enrique into our program will have a significant and positive impact. He is a great example of the talent being developed here in Winnipeg. His dedication and commitment as a high performance athlete will shine both for the Wesmen and Team Canada”, said Wesmen Men’s Soccer head coach Pedro Daza.
He was a member of the Provincial Soccer program for four years before joining the National Development Centre. As a member of the NDC, he had an opportunity to travel to popular soccer locations such as Belgium, Portugal and Brazil. Garcea was also a member of the FC North West team that took home a silver medal at the 2011 Club Nationals.
After travelling for several months and being away from his hometown Garcea is excited to suit up for the Wesmen Men’s Soccer team.
“I am happy to be home and be able to play at the CIS level. I feel we have a strong squad and even though it is our second year in the CIS I believe we can get the results we are hoping for”, said Garcea.
The Wesmen Men’s soccer team will play two pre-season matches against the Winnipeg Soccer Academy (August 22 and August 28) before opening up their regular season schedule on Saturday, August 31st on the road in Saskatoon against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
