The University of Winnipeg was well represented at the regional Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Ethics Challenge in Winnipeg on Saturday, February 9.
The team of Justin Makus, Hans Perera, and Eliza Massey — all in UWinnipeg’s Faculty of Business and Economics — defeated teams from the University of Saskatchewan, University of Manitoba, and University of Regina to win the competition.
These unique challenges, which take place across Canada, were specifically designed by CFA Societies Canada to “increase students’ awareness of the ethical dilemmas and issues they may face when they enter the investment management industry.”
During competitions, teams are given an ethics case to analyze and evaluate. Each team presents its analysis to a panel of judges and, following a question and answer period, the judges select a winning team.
Because they won their regional competition, Makus, Perera, and Massey will be heading to Calgary to participate in the national CFA Society Ethics Challenge on May 1. They’ll be competing against regional winners from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada.
