Anti-Bullying Experts on Campus

WINNIPEG, MB –Every seven seconds in Canada, a child is bullied. Bullying is a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and over the Internet. For the hundreds of victims who have been bullied into silence, students and adults alike, Anti-Bullying Day recognizes the importance of taking a united stand against bullying in the school yard and the work place.

The University of Winnipeg has several anti-bullying specialists including Dr. Wendy Josephson, Professor of Psychology and The University of Winnipeg’s Dr. Catherine Taylor, Professor, Faculty of Education and Department of Rhetoric, Writing & Communications who are nationally recognized for their expertise in this field.

Dr. Wendy Josephson is currently working on a project entitled StandUp! A Social Marketing Campaign to Empower Elementary School Children to Take Positive Action to Prevent Bullying, creating relevant bullying prevention programs and techniques for children for the Family Channel. Josephson earned a grant from PREVNet (Promoting Relationships and Elimination Violence Network), to work on this project.

Dr. Catherine Taylor is leading a national study funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) conducting a national inventory of programs and policies to foster school connectedness and reduce bullying in school districts across Canada.
