WINNIPEG, MB – While most Manitobans will gather around their TVs at some point this Friday to watch Prince William and Kate Middelton marry, one University of Winnipeg student will be outside Buckingham Palace taking in the festivities first-hand. Nineteen-year-old business student Daniel Whaley arrived in London on Sunday to stake out his spot along the procession route and he will be posting stories from his vantage point with USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/index). Whaley is a youth coordinator with the Monarchist League of Canada, an interest he took up after writing a paper in Grade 10 about the monarchy. He is part of a delegation of 45 Canadians, which includes six youth.
“I think young people are interested in this story because William and Kate are around our age and approachable,” said Whaley via cell, while strolling through Green Park. “I think this is one of the monumental events of the 21st Century.”
Whaley describes London as “warm, polished and repainted” and poised to host the world with hundreds of media outlets from around the globe already setting up reporting stations. He will camp out overnight Thursday to glimpse the royal procession as it heads to London’s 1,000 year-old Westminster Abbey.
