WINNIPEG, MB – Researchers, policy makers, advocates and funders worldwide who are working on poverty reduction, legal empowerment for the poor, human rights and development now have a critical new tool at their disposal: a secure on-line network developed and managed by The University of Winnipeg’s Global College that will allow for enhanced international collaboration.
With support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and The University of Winnipeg President’s Innovation Fund, Global College recently launched www.LEPnet.org – The International Applied Research Learning Network on Poverty and Human Rights.
Global Collaboration
LEPnet provides a secure online forum to enhance knowledge-sharing in implementing various strategies for legal empowerment of the poor, with particular emphasis on securing access to justice and promoting economic rights predicated on gender equality. LEPnet members are supported by the Global College Knowledge Facilitator to strengthen collaborative partnerships to develop, discuss, edit and publish materials on poverty reduction and to support more effective dialogue and action arising from international partnerships.
“I’m honoured to be entrusted by the International Development Research Centre as the Principal Investigator in their recent $50,000 investment in the new Global College Network on Poverty and Human Rights for international and Canadian researchers, practitioners, policy makers and advocates,” said the Principal of Global College, Prof. Marilou McPhedran. “To launch LEPNet.org we leveraged more than $100,000 from CIDA and UWinnipeg President Lloyd Axworthy’s Innovation Fund to customize this collaboration network at the nexus between poverty and human rights, linking with experts in Africa, Asia, England, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Peru.”
