Mayoral Candidates On Downtown Issues

Public forum Thursday, October 7 from 5:30pm-7:30pm

WINNIPEG, MB – The mayoral candidates, including incumbent Mayor Sam Katz and Judy Wasylycia-Leis, will square off on a variety of downtown issues at a Downtown Mayoral Forum to be held Thursday, October 7 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, in the atrium of Manitoba Hydro Place, 360 Portage Avenue.

Journalists Richard Cloutier from CJOB Radio and Dan Lett with the Winnipeg Free Press will moderate with a focus on downtown issues.

Let’s talk downtown safety: what will work? To bus or not to bus: what about rapid transit? Proper planning to encourage more and comprehensive development: are there enough resources to make it happen, and quicker? Fix up downtown infrastructure – show us the money for sidewalks, streets, garbage cans and more.

“This is the public’s chance to hear the candidates go on the record on a host of key issues that are pivotal in moving our city and our downtown forward, more quickly,” said Stefano Grande, Downtown BIZ executive director. “We’re looking forward to a lively discussion.”

“I’m very interested to hear what each of these candidates are prepared to offer as their vision for our downtown,” said Brian Timmerman, Exchange District BIZ executive director.
