Everyone is invited to enjoy great music and support a worthy cause at Class Acts V, to be held in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall on Friday, February 26 at 7:00 pm.
Class Acts V highlights the hidden musical talents of UWinnipeg’s faculty and staff. The fantastic line-up includes perennial favourites, Juno award-winning band Nathan (which includes Devin Latimer, (Chemistry) and Glenn Buhr, composer, music professor and one of the founders of the Winnipeg New Music Festival. He will play with author Margaret Sweatman (English), with whom he shares a Genie Award.
Also back by popular demand are Murray Evans (English), Robb Matheson (Security Services), the blues band Blasphemers (Angela Failler, Sociology/Women’s Studies, and Craig Willis, Biology), Hector Leon Valenzuela (partner of Melodie Doherty, Student Services), Uptown Grass (with Ed Byard, Biology and Don Metz, Education), Neil Besner (Senior Administration) with his son Daniel and daughter Barbara. In addition, there are a few new faces. Lisa Tucker, (Education) on the Celtic harp and Jan DeFehr (Student Services), plays piano. Paul Friesen (Library) resumes his duties as MC and reprises his “tweener” gig, also a Class Acts favourite.
All the proceeds from the event will be donated to The University of Winnipeg General Scholarship Fund. Class Acts started in 2002 as the brainchild of Marion Tetrault and was first brought to the stage by UWinnipeg’s own impresario Harry Strub. Class Acts raised $4,000 last year and has raised close to $10,000 since its creation.
The music will cover the spectrum from Amadeus Mozart through Kathleen Edwards to Bill Monroe. Tickets are $20 (just $10 for students) and are available at the door, or in advance from:
