This year’s winner of the University of Winnipeg’s annual tuition credit draw is Kailee Thiessen!
Kailee is a faculty of education student, majoring in English and minoring in math, with some French for good measure. After graduation, or as part of her teaching practicum, she is hoping to work overseas, perhaps in Thailand or China.
“It’s a calling in my life,” expressed Kailee. “In elementary school I already knew I wanted to be a teacher and live and work internationally.”
Kailee will receive a $5,000 credit towards her tuition this year, which is welcome news for this new UWinnipeg student.
“It was really surprising,” said Kailee.
She first heard the news through a voice mail message she received while driving. After hearing the exciting news, she was in shock. She turned off the radio to pause and think about what just happened.
She comes to the UWinnipeg program after completing courses at Steinbach Bible College and graduating from Steinbach Christian School in 2019. After hearing good things about the program and its practicum opportunities from other students, she feels confident she made the right choice. She is looking forward to attending some in-person classes, and start re-learning French and math again.
While Kailee currently has a good job and has been saving up all summer, the tuition credit prize will help her with her goal of being debt-free when she graduates.
She is also the first transfer student to receive the prize, as it normally gets awarded to a first-year student coming straight from high school.
All new students are eligible, and all students who attend a UWinnipeg presentation or event this year are automatically entered into the draw which will take place in the summer.
To attend a presentation this fall, visit UWinnipeg Presentations for dates, times, and the registration link.
Students who register for Future Student Night in November will also be eligible to win. Visit Future Student Night to register.
