Gallery 1C03 is featuring WHAT WE MAKE IV: The University of Winnipeg Staff and Student Art Exhibition , and we need your works of art!
The exhibition will take place in Gallery 1C03 from April 25 – May 17, 2024.
There are many hidden talents among our faculty, staff, and students across The University of Winnipeg. If you dabble in painting, drawing or photography, Gallery 1C03 encourages you to submit your works to be shared in this community exhibition. Or, if you are seasoned artist using any medium of visual expression, we want your art too!
“We really encourage submissions in all types of art forms: that means painting or drawing but it also includes beadwork, film or video, embroidery, knitting,” said Jennifer Gibson, Gallery 1C03 Director/Curator. “Really, we are open to accepting just about any creative work that you could imagine.”
This year’s UWinnipeg student and staff exhibition invites participants to respond to the question: what does equity, diversity and inclusion mean to you? The University aims to consider equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) practices in the classroom and workplace on a regular basis, but how do those considerations make themselves visible in creative work? This is an opportunity for people to use materials that they are comfortable with to make something that reflects upon EDI.
In tandem with this year’s theme, the gallery is also prioritizing works submitted by people from equity-seeking communities, including folks who identify as Indigenous, Black and People of Colour, 2SLGBTQ+, disabled, and women.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to bring the campus community together to share an aspect of people’s talents that we may not necessarily know about,” shared Gibson.
Submissions are to be brought to Gallery 1C03 on April 18 and 19. For more information and guidelines for submission, please visit WHAT WE MAKE IV: The University of Winnipeg Staff and Student Art Exhibition.
