The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tabitha Wood as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science, effective July 1, 2025.

Dr. Wood was appointed Associate Dean of Science July 2019, following a 12-month term as acting Associate Dean. She has worked for over 15 years in the Department of Chemistry, lecturing on the subjects of organic chemistry, biochemistry, and medicinal chemistry.

In the Dean’s office, Dr. Wood has served students with compassion and fairness, maintained high standards of laboratory safety, and supported faculty members in their applications for research/study leave. She also took on a leadership role in the Academic COVID-19 Response Planning Team. In the role of Associate Dean, she continued to advance outreach efforts at the University, with a special focus on partnership in STEM Days, an event organized by the Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre that provides students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to provide free hands-on STEM activities for 1,000 school-aged children each year.

Dr. Wood holds a B.Sc. (University of Winnipeg) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry (Dalhousie University). Her research explores organic synthetic chemistry methodology and target-oriented synthesis for molecules with therapeutic biological activity. This work emphasizes the use of rearrangement reactions which efficiently achieve new molecular structures while minimizing the loss of waste atoms. Through her research program, she has provided many students with their first opportunity to work as research assistants.
