The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Brandon Christopher (he/him) as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Dr. Christopher’s five-year appointment is effective from July 1, 2025.

Dr. Christopher earned his PhD in English Literature, with a focus on Early Modern Drama, from Queen’s University in 2007. That same year, he joined the English Department at The University of Winnipeg, where he has served as Chair of the MA in Cultural Studies (2014-2016) and as Department Chair (2016-2022).

Since joining the Faculty of Arts, he has become known for his dedication to academic excellence and student success. “I am delighted to be working with Dr. Christopher,” said Dr. Tracy Whalen, Dean of the Faculty of Arts. “Brandon brings invaluable administrative experience to this role, as well as genuine commitment to students and faculty. Anyone who has served with Brandon on a committee or heard him speak in Senate knows that he also has a keen and careful eye to detail, numerical and otherwise.”

Dr. Christopher’s research and teaching focus on Shakespeare and early modern drama and culture, and on adaptations of Shakespeare and his works in contemporary culture, especially in comics. From 2020-2025, he served on the executive of the Canadian Society for the Study of Comics, including a term as President (2022-2024).

In addition to publishing articles and book chapters on Shakespeare and on comics more generally, he is the editor, with Dr. Jim Casey, of Shakespeare and Comics: Negotiating Cultural Value (Bloomsbury 2024). He and his co-editor are currently working on a new volume of essays focused on Shakespeare and Science Fiction.
