As part of the University of Winnipeg’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Week, Gallery 1C03 is pleased to present the Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Makers Market. The market will be held on Tuesday, June 2, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on the first floor of Centennial Hall and in the Riddell Atrium. The event is free and open to the public.

Talented makers who identify as Two-Spirit or Indigiqueer will be on campus to sell their creations. Visitors can browse a wide range of handmade items, including jewelry, beaded accessories, ribbon wear, paintings, prints, stickers, keychains, puzzles, stationery, and home décor.

This is the first time the University has presented a makers market specifically highlighting the work of Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer makers. The event builds on previous collaborations between Gallery 1C03, the Office of Indigenous Engagement, and the Indigenous Student Services Centre, including an Indigenous makers market held in conjunction with KC Adams’ exhibition Seven Generations in late 2025.

For this event, the University is pleased to welcome makers from throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba. Featured makers include Beads by Alyssa, Bird House Creations, Deadly Creeations, Elise Chambers, Lii Roozyii, Little Rose Wolf, Lucas Corbin Cole, Mahkitõn Waabooz Design, Miss Indigenous Canada, Native Royalty, Posies Creeations, Shanelle St. Hilaire Art, Shooniikwe, Solstice Beading, Strawbby.Artz, and White Faced Wolf Studio. You can read about the makers on the Two-Spirit and Indigiqueer Makers Market webpage.

“We’re excited to welcome so many talented makers to our campus, and we hope that people will drop by to see their creations and perhaps discover something new,” said Jennifer Gibson, Director of Gallery 1C03. “People can support artists by purchasing some lovely and unique creations for themselves or to give to others as gifts. The makers at this market are offering items in various styles and at different price points, so there will be something for everyone.”

The market connects closely with the Gallery’s current exhibition, Beading Metis Resurgence, which features intricately beaded contemporary artworks by five Indigenous artists, several of whom are Two-Spirit. With Gallery 1C03 next door to the makers market, visitors can easily view Beading Metis Resurgence before or after participating in the market.

The market was also timed to coordinate with other campus events taking place during 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Week, including the Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer Tea and Bannock Social, allowing visitors to experience several events while on campus. A full list of events can be viewed on the Pride Week website.
