WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg has taken the next steps to honour its commitment to sustainability. UWinnipeg has achieved Climate Registered™ status by measuring its carbon footprint according to The Climate Registry’s best-in-class program, having it third party verified, and reporting the data on the registry’s website. This builds on the effort that began in 2006 when UWinnipeg started reporting greenhouse gas emissions publicly through its annual Sustainability Performance Reports.
“We know that transparent and accurate reporting of greenhouse gas emissions plays a big role in achieving real emission reductions,” said UWinnipeg’s Director of Sustainability, Alana Lajoie-O’Malley. “The practice was critical in enabling us to achieve our first major reductions in GHG emissions last year, and we will continue to rely on strong reporting as we strive to achieve a 10% reduction below 1990 levels by the end of 2016.”
Measuring their carbon footprint with The Climate Registry helps organizations identify inefficiencies and potential for cost savings, and provide meaningful data about their environmental performance to stakeholders.
