Books For Sale During Homecoming

Late professor’s personal library on offer

WINNIPEG, MB – Colleagues, friends and former students of the late Dr. Carl Ridd, theology professor at The University of Winnipeg, as well as members of the general public are invited to select from hundreds of books on a wide variety of subjects from his personal library in return for a freewill contribution to the Carl Ridd Sanctuary Restoration Fund.

The library sale will take place during The University of Winnipeg’s Homecoming Week activities on September 5 and 6, 2008. Books will be available in the Carl Ridd Sanctuary, formerly known as the Chapel in Bryce Hall, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Dr. Ridd’s widow, Beverley Ridd, explains her late husband was not a passive reader. “He got right into the act,” she says, “underlining pertinent passages, adding his own comments in meticulous and detailed marginal notes and inserting supporting notes and clippings.” As a result, many of the volumes are unique and personalized mementos into Carl Ridd’s research, beliefs and motivation.

Visitors are invited to select books at no charge, but donations to the Sanctuary’s Restoration Fund would be appreciated. The fund is allowing for upgrades to the lighting, carpeting and seating in the Sanctuary. All books are offered on a first-come basis and additional titles will be added as display space becomes available.
