WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg’s Global College is offering students the opportunity to study with professors from Peru and South Dakota in May while earning credits at two unique Summer Institutes:
The History of Migration and Development explores human migration from rural to urban, primarily in Latin America. The migration of large populations is also transforming society in Africa, Asia and Canada, which will be compared with the South American experience. Ross McCormack, Catholic University of Peru will teach this 3 credit course, which runs from May 5 and 16, 2008. Students have the option of attending in-class or via telecourse.
The Ethics of Globalization examines the critical and philosophical foundations underpinning the concept of globalization. A particular focus will be Canadian and American perspectives and how these views interact with aboriginal and other cultures, traditions, religions and practices as well as feminist views. In-class instruction will be provided by UWinnipeg’s Eliakim Sibanda and South Dakota State University’s Nels Granholm. The 3 credit course runs from May 20 to 30, 2008.
The Summer Institute courses are open to university students, high school graduates as well as members of the public.
The Global College provides students, faculty, visiting scholars, dignitaries, and the community with a place to share diverse perspectives about issues of global citizenship, human rights, and issues affecting the planet.
