WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg continues to work closely with the Winnipeg Police Service to investigate a message left on a washroom wall that was reported by a student on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, warning of an occurrence on the morning of Sept. 26. The following is an update on recent campus security information:
- The University of Winnipeg remains open for classes and business.
- No incidents have been reported today. The police investigation into the original warning message continues.
- Attendance at classes was lower than usual this morning, however, most classes are still going ahead this afternoon and this evening. Please visit www.uwinnipeg.ca for updates on classes that are not proceeding this evening.
- All classes on Thursday, Sept. 27 and Friday, Sept. 28 will go ahead as scheduled with enhanced security measures in place.
- Beginning Thursday, Sept. 27, the entry point to the campus from Ellice Avenue at the north doors to Lockhart Hall will be re-opened.
- Entry to the University will continue to be limited to the following five main entry points:
- Front (south) door to Centennial Hall
- Spence Street (west) door to Riddell Hall
- Front (south) door to the Duckworth Centre
- Front (south) door to Wesley Hall for Collegiate Staff & Students
- Ellice Avenue (north) doors to Lockhart Hall
- Bag searches will continue at the main entry points. Additional staff will be present at these entrances to help alleviate delays and lineups.
- People coming to campus are asked to arrive early to avoid delays.
- These security measures will continue through Friday. Measures for next week are now being assessed. Regular updates will be posted at www.uwinnipeg.ca as they become available.
