Today, the students, faculty, and staff at The University of Winnipeg will commemorate the lives of women who have been killed by violence.
On December 6, 1989 a gunman walked into L’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal and shot and killed 14 female students, because they were women studying in a non-traditional field. Since that time, December 6th has been nationally recognized as a day on which we stop to remember this event and pause to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society.
