Graduation is a time for celebrating outstanding achievements. On Sunday, June 4, 2006, The University of Winnipeg welcomed family, friends, and the public to honour the graduating class at its eighty-first convocation.
Chancellor H. Sanford Riley, President & Vice-Chancellor Lloyd Axworthy, the University Board of Regents and Senate, and the Alumni Association extend congratulations to the 1,019 graduates as they join the more than 30,000 University of Winnipeg alumni around the world. A record number of degrees –1,165 — were conferred at this Spring’s Convocation.
At Spring Convocation, Dr. Allan Ronald, an eminent Manitoban who has battled the AIDS pandemic in Africa, received an Honorary Doctor of Science. Sheila Watt-Cloutier, environmental activist and Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws and Rev. Gao Ying, a Chinese Christian leader, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity by The University of Winnipeg. John Krahn (Class of 1968) was this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award.
