This year, as in many years past; the students, faculty, and staff at the University of Winnipeg will commemorate the Anniversary of December 6th with a vigil honouring the lives of women who have been killed by violence.
On December 6, 1986 a gunman walked into L’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal and shot and killed 14 female students, because they were women studying in a non-traditional field. Since that time, December 6th has been nationally recognized as a day on which we stop to remember this event and pause to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society.
Students, faculty, staff, family, and friends are invited to join us in commemoration of this day:
