Graduation is a time for celebrating outstanding achievements. On Sunday, June 5, 2005, The University of Winnipeg welcomed family, friends, and the public to honour the graduating class of the seventy-ninth convocation. A record 1,082 students graduated, joining more than 30,000 University of Winnipeg alumni around the world.
At Spring Convocation, Dr. John Polanyi, one of Canada’s preeminent scientists and Nobel Laureates (Chemistry 1986) was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science. James MacDonald, (Collegiate Class of 1964) longtime Collegiate and University of Winnipeg supporter, received an Honorary Doctor of Laws. Shirley Render, (Class of 1964) aviation historian, pilot, author, politician, and international public speaker was this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award.
