Each year, students and faculty at The University of Winnipeg commemorate December 6th as a National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Students, faculty, staff, family, and friends are invited to join us in commemoration of this day:
Monday, December 6, 2004
3:30 p.m.
Foyer of Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall
On December 6, 1989, 14 women were shot and killed at l’Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal solely for being women studying in a non-traditional field. Since this time, December 6th has been nationally recognized as a day on which we stop to commemorate this event and pause to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society. This year marks of the 15th anniversary of this horrific event, and it is as important as ever that we work to ensure that the lives of these young women are not forgotten.
