Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, University of Winnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor, delivered a keynote address to the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

With more than $130-million being spent on new structures, The University of Winnipeg is changing the urban landscape along Portage Avenue. Projects underway or just completed include the new student residence McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence, the UWSA Day Care Centre, the Science Complex and Richardson College for the Environment, the redeveloped AnX (the former Greyhound Bus Depot) and the new Buhler Centre, going up where the United Army Surplus store once stood.

Dr. Axworthy spoke about these developments, as well as the University’s outreach and community engagement and important new initiatives including a partnership with technology giant Cisco that will see UWinnipeg become a hub for a provincial network of Cisco TelePresence™ sites, and the recent grant from The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation that will allow UWinnipeg to offer the only Master’s in Development Practice specializing in Indigenous Development in the world (pending Senate and COPSE approval).
