The University of Winnipeg is closing its campus overnight as a precautionary measure to allow for a thorough and complete search of all campus buildings.
Earlier today Winnipeg Technical College received a non-specific security threat that referenced the University of Winnipeg.
UWinnipeg has an assessment protocol in place which was activated to deal with this matter. Several Winnipeg Police officers immediately joined our campus security and physical plant personnel and these teams conducted a preliminary sweep of our campus which did not turn up anything suspicious.
However as an additional precaution, the decision has been made to conduct a thorough search of all campus buildings overnight tonight. Additional security will be employed to assist our regular staff with this search.
The campus closure will commence at 4:30 pm Wednesday, April 24, 2013. We anticipate reopening our campus with business as usual at 8 am tomorrow, Thursday, April 25, 2013.
Students and faculty are advised to check the UWinnipeg website for updates or follow us at twitter.com/uwinnipeg
The exams scheduled for 6:00 pm tonight, Wednesday, April 24, 2013, which include Organic Chemistry 11 and Introduction to Sociology sections 463, 464, 750, 751 and 758 have been postponed.
These exams will be rescheduled for Thursday, April 25 at a time to be determined. We will notify affected students and faculty as soon as possible of the new schedule.
We apologize for any inconvenience; however the safety and security of our University community are paramount.
