UWinnipeg’s Canada Research Chair in Quantum Materials Discovery and chemist Dr. Christopher Wiebe, is heading to the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland. He is one of only two selected, as a Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the University of Edinburgh. Wiebe will be there for his sabbatical year in 2020. The award, valued at roughly $48,000 CDN, will enable him to conduct quantum materials research with Dr. Chris Stock and other colleagues overseas.
“I am very honoured and pleased to be a Leverhulme Visiting Professor,” said Wiebe. “Networks are very important for modern research and I am fortunate that I can build my collaborations at the University of Edinburgh with this opportunity.”
His appointment also includes a lecture tour of the United Kingdom including Oxford University, the University of Glasgow, and the University College London.
“Dr. Wiebe is an accomplished researcher with a long and distinguished career including being awarded a Canada Research Chair,” said Dr. Jino Distasio, UWinnipeg Vice-President, Research and Innovation. “This current award is further testament to his excellence in both research and teaching. We know this visit to Edinburgh will be rewarding for him and the institution.”
William Hesketh Lever left a share of his holdings in his company after his death in 1925 to establish the Leverhulme Trust supporting charities, research, and education.
