On June 24, the University of Winnipeg’s Board of Regents approved a balanced budget of $175.5 million for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
This budget reflects an increase to the University’s base operating grant from the provincial government, as well as continued cost-cutting measures and adjustments to tuition and fees.
The University’s operating grant from the province has increased by 5% this year (an initial 2% increase followed by a further 3% increase announced this week). In addition to the operating grant, the province has allocated $2.5 million to UWinnipeg to support deferred maintenance projects, doubling the amount provided last year. The University remains in constant dialogue with the province and is grateful for this meaningful investment in students. UWinnipeg will continue to work closely with the provincial government to build a stronger Manitoba through quality higher education.
In addition to select adjustments in fees, tuition will increase by 3.5% for domestic students and 7% for international students. The University will also begin a two-year process to harmonize the tuition rates for courses within faculties, gradually phasing out a ‘low rate’ for some courses that does not align with instructional costs. For all students, UWinnipeg tuition and fees will remain among the very lowest in the province and country.
The University looks forward to an exceptional 2025-2026 academic year as faculty, staff, students, alumni, supporters, and government partners work together to improve lives and strengthen communities.
