Call For Submissions: 7th Annual UWinnipeg Student Film Festival

WINNIPEG – The University of Winnipeg Department of Theatre and Film invites submissions for its 7th Annual University of Winnipeg Student Film Festival.

Festival Dates: Wednesday, April 22 – Friday, April 24, 2009

Location:  Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall (3rd Floor, Centennial Hall)

The University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Avenue

Eligibility: Students registered at a Manitoba post-secondary institution between
April 2008 and April 2009

Entry Fee:  No charge

Deadline:  Monday, April 6, 2009, 4:00 p.m. SHARP

The University of Winnipeg annual Student Film Festival provides an opportunity for student filmmakers to have their work juried by a panel of local filmmakers and to have their films screened before a public audience and members of the local filmmaking community.

“Every year the quality of the films being produced by today’s student filmmakers continues to impress me,” says University of Winnipeg Film Professor John Kozak. “These student films are often innovative, exhibit a high level of craftsmanship, and are very entertaining.”

Prizes

Submission forms are available on The University of Winnipeg campus at the UWSA Info Booth (Main Floor, Centennial Hall) and the office of the Department of Theatre and Film (Room 3T03), or on the web at: http://theatre.uwinnipeg.ca/filmfest.htm. Films can be in any style, type, or genre (i.e. drama, documentary, animation, or experimental), and must run between two and 30 minutes in length.

Successful entries will be announced Monday, April 13, 2009. Screenings of all films will take place April 22 and 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. A gala evening including the premiere of a new film by senior UW filmmaking students, special guest Gary Yates, awards ceremony, and reception to celebrate the best films of the Festival will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. All screenings and events take place in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall (3rd Floor, Centennial Hall.)

Cash prizes will be awarded for: Best Animation, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Editor, Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Audience Favourite.

This Festival is made possible through the generous support of The University of Winnipeg’s Office of the Vice-President (Academic), The University of Winnipeg Students’ Association, and the Department of Theatre and Film.

The Festival is open to the public and the admission is free.
