Calling Student Filmmakers

WINNIPEG, MB –The University of Winnipeg Department of Theatre and Film invites submissions for its 10th Annual University of Winnipeg Student Film Festival.

Eligibility:  Students registered at a post-secondary institution between April 2011 and April 2012

Entry Fee:            No charge
Deadline:              Monday, April 9, 2012, 4:00 p.m. SHARP
Festival Dates:  Wednesday, April 25 to Friday, April 27, 2012
Location:             Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall (3rd Floor, Centennial Hall)
University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Avenue

The Festival is open to the public and admission is free.

UWinnipeg’s annual Student Film Festival provides an opportunity for student filmmakers to have their work juried by a panel of local filmmakers, their films screened before a public audience and members of the local filmmaking community.

“Every year the quality of the films being produced by today’s student filmmakers continues to impress me,” says UWinnipeg Film Professor John Kozak. “These student films are often innovative, exhibit a high level of craftsmanship, and are very entertaining.”

Submission forms are available on The University of Winnipeg campus at the UWSA Info Booth (Main Floor, Centennial Hall) and the office of the Department of Theatre and Film (Room 3T03), or on the web at: http://theatre.uwinnipeg.ca/filmfest.htm. Films can be in any style, type or genre (i.e. drama, comedy, experimental, documentary, mockumentary, music videos, animation, etc.), and must run between two – thirty minutes in length.

Successful entries will be announced on Monday, April 16, 2012.
Screenings of all films will take place April 25 and 26 from 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Gala evening, April 27, 7:00 pm

Prizes will be awarded for: Best Animation, Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Editor, Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Actor, Best Actress and Audience Favourite.

A gala evening featuring the première of Made for Each Other, by Nicholas Friesen. filmed by senior UWinnipeg filmmaking students, a special guest, awards ceremony, and reception to celebrate the winning films of the Festival will be held Friday, April 27, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. All screenings and events take place in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall.(3rd Floor, Centennial Hall), 515 Portage Ave..
