Everyone is welcome to attend an Open House and meet the health and counselling staff at the newly renovated campus Wellness Centre, Friday, January 29, 2016 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Light refreshments will be available following a ribbon cutting with Jan Byrd, Executive Director, Wellness and Student Life and Kevin Settee, Vice-President (External Affairs), University of Winnipeg Students’ Association.

Students can access a comprehensive general and specialized counselling team and health services as Klinic on Campus is now co-located within the new Wellness Centre. All these services are free for students.

“We are very pleased to be moving into the new Wellness Centre. The new location in Duckworth is both comfortable and easily accessible to all students and staff,” said Linda Dawson, R.N.,Director of Health Services, Klinic Community Health Centre.“We look forward to the increased visibility of our services.  Being co-located with the counsellors and psychiatrist will allow the Nurse Practitioners and Dietitian to work more closely with the mental health team, thereby providing more whole person, client-centered care.”

“The shift to having counsellors and health care providers working in one centre aligns with our philosophy that wellness is multidimensional,” said Byrd.  “We strive to view each student as a whole person, and the Wellness Centre staff will assist them to attend to their wellness in a holistic way”.

In addition, UWinnipeg is a leader in Canada in offering a comprehensive Sexual Misconduct protocol and training, developed in close partnership with community experts and the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association.

“The placement of Klinic staff in the Wellness Centre alongside counsellors is an effective, holistic approach to addressing students’ health needs,” said Peyton Veitch, President, UWSA..“This move further demonstrates that the University is listening to students’ call for visible, accessible, high-quality supports on campus.”

The Wellness Centre hours of operation are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday.
