WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg’s department of Mennonites Studies celebrates 50 years of the Mennonite Central Committee Canada (MCC) by hosting a conference on December 13-14, 2013, marking the day when MCC was established.
Highlights of the conference include the launch of Esther Epp-Tiessen’s book, Mennonite Central Committee in Canada: A History and a keynote address by the author. The conference will also reflect on MCC’s work; how MCC relates to a wider story of faith and charity in Canada, and as a global movement.
“At this conference we will ponder, critique and celebrate a story of caring for one another, for our communities and for our environment,” expressed Royden Loewen, UWinnipeg Chair of Mennonites Studies. “This is a conference inspired by faith and commitment.”
MCC in Canada is a story of people coming together because of a shared history, identity and mission. That history emphasizes a commitment to faith, nonviolence, service to the poor and justice including debating what this challenge means. MCC reflects the diverse church groups that own this organization and volunteers from diverse backgrounds and vocations that work to addressing suffering anywhere in the world.
All sessions will be held in Convocation Hall, 2nd Floor Wesley Hall, University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Ave. All are welcome. For a full program visit http://mennonitestudies.uwinnipeg.ca/events/
