Tony Tascona
Tony Tascona, artist and longtime friend of The University of Winnipeg, passed away May 28 at the age of 80. The University of Winnipeg community extends its condolences to Dr. Tascona’s partner Doreen Millin and with their extended families and friends.
Dr. Tascona received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from The University of Winnipeg in 1994 and the University’s Permanent Art Collection features a number of fine examples of his works of art. In 1998, the artist established the Tony Tascona Bursary Fund to provide financial support for art history students, with an emphasis on Canadian art history. Just this past April, the University and its Foundation hosted an 80th birthday celebration for the gifted painter, sculptor, and printmaker. Dr. Tascona was inducted into the Order of Canada in 1996.
