April 27, 2005 (Winnipeg, Manitoba) – The University of Winnipeg’s plans to revitalize Spence Street are one step closer to reality. In a unanimous decision, Winnipeg City Council today voted to endorse the University’s request for a transit-friendly pedestrian mall. The decision follows months of what has been called one of the largest ever series of public consultations in Winnipeg.
By transforming Spence Street into a green, transit-friendly pedestrian mall, campus area is effectively increased, providing the University with much-needed expansion for classroom, student services, campus amenities, staff offices, as well as student and community housing.
