WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg Collegiate Wesmen girls’ basketball team captured the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA) AAA Provincial Championship last Saturday with a 73-60 victory over St. Norbert Collegiate.
Coached by JoAnne Small and Lee Hurton, the Wesmen defeated Westgate 70-27 and R.D. Parker 77-69 en route to the Championship final. The tournament was held at Westgate Mennonite Collegiate.
In the final, the Collegiate side led by as many as 22 points over St. Norbert. Brittany Boudreau led the Wesmen in scoring with 29 points. Kenesha Giles added 18 points, and Raven Boulanger scored 13 points and was named Player of the Game.
Boudreau was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Giles was named to the tournament’s All-Star Team.
The win marks the second straight provincial basketball title for the Wesmen girls to go along with a provincial championship in volleyball.
