WINNIPEG, MB – Please be advised that during the next ten weeks, there will be noticeable construction in and around The University of Winnipeg campus at Young Street.

As we prepare for the grand opening of the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex on June 27, UWinnipeg is pleased to move forward with construction of the Green Corridor linking the main campus to our Furby-Langside campus.

This eco-friendly project allows us to improve accessibility, create new green space in the community, and in conjunction with the City of Winnipeg, upgrade an aging sewer system that will benefit neighbourhood residents as well as our campus.

PHASE ONE

Beginning on June 13 and lasting for approximately 5 to 8 days there will be major excavation on Young Street. Please avoid this area if possible. Young Street will be passable with flagged construction crews.

PHASE TWO

Beginning on June 20 and lasting approximately 10 weeks – The Young Street scramble parking lot will be closed permanently as installation of the tanks begins. Traffic on Young Street will be passable with flagged construction.

During this phase, we will construct a temporary walkway to link the main campus to the Furby-Langside campus.

PHASE THREE

By September 5 – a new paved pedestrian paththat meets American Disability Association standards will link the main campus to the Furby-Langside campus. The whole area, including the former Young Street scramble parking lot, will be re-sodded and transformed into the Richardson Green Corridor, with appropriate security cameras and lighting.

We thank members of the community for their patience during this construction period.
