Three University of Winnipeg students will share stories of their internships overseas at a public forum this Wednesday afternoon.

The students are the first recipients of theDr. Douglas W. Leatherdale Global Citizen Internships. Thanks to the financial support of Dr. Douglas Leatherdale (The Collegiate, Class of ’57), these internships offer exceptional opportunities for up to five Canadian and International UWinnipeg students per year to research, debate, and gain first-hand experience together with academic credit for studies related to global citizenship, human rights and issues affecting the planet.
The three Leatherdale interns who will make presentations this year are:
Erin Briscoe, a UWinnipeg graduate who majored in Environmental Studies and International Development, who worked in Madagascar with Azafady, a local environmental issues Non-Governmental Organization.
Lindsay Porteous, a UWinnipeg B.Sc. graduate in Biochemistry and Biology, is now in first year Medical School at the University of Manitoba. She spent last summer on an internship placement in Kenya working with a volunteer organization on AIDS awareness, healthcare, education and micro-enterprise development.
Katie Josephson, a UWinnipeg Education graduate currently teaching at Kelvin High School, completed a teaching practicum at the Colegio Ambientalista Isaias Retana Arias (CAIRA), a school in Costa Rica with an environmental studies-based curriculum.
