Dr. Pavlina Radia appointed Provost and Vice-President, Academic

The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Pavlina Radia as Provost and Vice-President, Academic effective July 1, 2023. She will concurrently hold a tenured appointment as Professor in the Department of English, Faculty of Arts.

Dr. Radia is currently Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science and Professor in English Studies at Nipissing University. She holds a PhD in English from the University of Toronto and has an established and exemplary record of excellence and success in teaching, research, and administration. 

Dr. Radia has held faculty and administrative positions at Nipissing since 2010, and is the co-founder and director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Collaboration in the Arts and Sciences at Nipissing University. She served in other academic administrative roles including Interim Dean of the faculty, and as its Associate Dean. While leading in these roles, she has been responsible for strategic academic planning, financial sustainability and revenue generation, program and curriculum development, interdisciplinary programming, and community engagement. She has also contributed to the wider academic community in a number of ways including through her work on the Executive, and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committees of the Senior Women Academic Administrators of Canada (SWAAC).

Dr. Radia’s scholarly expertise is wide-ranging, and includes American and contemporary literature; modernist literature; gender, race, and cultural studies; digital media studies; and war and genocide memorial sites. She has taught numerous courses, mentored students, and published widely in these areas, receiving awards for both teaching and research. Dr. Radia has an established, broad network of international collaborations and research partnerships, has co-organized several international conferences, and has served as an institutional SSHRC Leader.

Throughout her academic and administrative career, Dr. Radia has actively supported and is committed to teaching and learning excellence, transformative and innovative research, Indigenous achievement and success, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.
