Dr. Annette Trimbee, President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Winnipeg, has agreed to join the Alberta government’s 2015 Royalty Review panel, which was announced on August 28. She was selected for the role based on her deep experience in developing public policy frameworks along with the experience she gained as a Deputy Minister in key Alberta departments, including Treasury Board and Finance, Service Alberta and Advanced Education and Technology, prior to joining UWinnipeg.
Dr. Trimbee will be part of a four-person panel that will review Alberta’s royalty framework. The panel includes Dave Mowat, President and CEO, ATB Financial; Peter Tertzakian, Chief Energy Economist & Managing Director, ARC Financial Corp.; and Leona Hanson, Mayor, Town of Beaverlodge, Alberta. The panel’s work will be guided by the Alberta government’s mandate to achieve a common understanding about the royalty system.
Dr. Trimbee will take part in the review while maintaining her full commitment to The University of Winnipeg. The Royalty Review panel is expected to conclude its work by December 2015. Dr. Trimbee believes, as a university president, she has a responsibility to participate in work that has an impact on the wider world. She agreed to help tackle this task because of its significance to Canada, and in her own words, “I like to mobilize people to work towards a common cause” which is exactly the work of this panel.
