Eco-Kids receive their certificates, June 25, 2013
A very special graduation took place at The University of Winnipeg on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 as 130 inner city students in grade six at Strathcona Elementary School, William Whyte Elementary School and Sister MacNamara School received certificates for completing the Enbridge Eco-Kids on Campus program.
The unique program brings children to UWinnipeg’s campus to study science, the environment and to participate in fun and educational experiments in UWinnipeg’s science labs. Several UWinnipeg and Collegiate professors dedicate two hours every Tuesday over the school year to foster a love of science in the children. The program is coordinated through UWinnipeg’s Innovative Learning Centre.
Three schools and 130 children participated in the 2013 Enbridge Eco-Kids on Campus program
The University of Winnipeg Eco-Kids on Campus Program began in 2008, with Enbridge joining as title sponsor in 2009. Since 2008, nearly 500 grade six students from inner city schools have participated.
Through its School Plus Program, Enbridge provides an annual grant of $25,000.00 which allows the Eco-Kids on Campus program to operate. The School Plus Program provides substantial financial support each year to teachers who wish to undertake programs and activities that are not fully funded as part of the school standard curriculum. This donation provides participating youth with enriched science programming including transportation, nutrition, registration, T-shirts and equipment.
